This was a rare two-fold tailgate, extremely aggressive driving and
harrassment. The situation started while southbound on
I-270 before the split. I observed two vehicles one tow-truck and
one contractor van moving at a fairly high rate of speed in the left
HOV lane. A slower moving older driver was also in the HOV lane
(not HOV during the middle of the day). I was in the second lane
(express lanes) from the right. Upon observing the vehicles
approach and begin to tailgate, I readied my camera and move to the
next lane over. Both vehicles had plenty of opportunity to pass
to the right, but
instead continued to tailgate both the car and each other (see
photo#1). At this point they were a good distance ahead, but with
the slow moving vehicle, it did not take me long to get closer (without
speeding). I photographed both drivers as I approached, and
passed. Additional photos were taken while passing, in
which the driver could notice me doing so. The Contractor
van finally moved out of the left (HOV) land and proceeded toward
I-495. I made my exit on Rt. 355 south. I noticed the tow
truck made the same turn, and continued to mimic the same moves as
myself, so we made some turns to verify this, and indeed he was
following me (which is illegal in the state of Maryland). So he
blindly followed me all the way to the Bethesda Police station, were I
pulled in an alerted an officer, who quickly intercept the driver (who
was already pulled over awaiting for me to continue). I continued
on my way to my destination.

This driver at the lane merge just past Rt. 27 exit passed to the right
(which is illegal in MD) and then also used the shoulder (when the lane
ended). I partly blocked his path with my vehicle, which sent him
into a rage. I fell in behind and began to take pictures and
video of his vehicle driving irractly. Shortly after, as I began
to merge into other lanes, he would move in front and make movements
that would indicate he was try to force me into another lane or
shoulder. I continued to take pictures and video. After
those aggressive moves I contact MD state police and reported his
vehicle. I then just stayed behind him and let him move well
ahead of me. Shortly before I made my exit onto Urbana Pike, he
fell behind me and followed me on the exit. He pulled into the
7-11 near the exit, and I continued and made a U-turn at Rt.355.
I noticed him leaving the 7-11 and continuing on Urbana Pike toward
Rt.355 (eastbound), where I lost visual. I continued on my way to
take pictures of the snow. |
